Integrative Health

Clinical psychologist may include Integrative Health as part of treatment

Integrative Health uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance. The person's attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around the person is temporarily blocked out or ignored. In this naturally occurring state, a person may focus his or her attention -- with the help of a trained therapist -- on specific thoughts or tasks.

What Are the Benefits of Hypnosis?

The hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to therapeutic input and suggestions. It is used as a psychotherapeutic intervention, when indicated, to improve the successful treatments of many indications, including:

Phobias, fears, and anxiety

Sleep disorders

Post-trauma anxiety

Grief and loss

How Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis is usually considered an aid to psychotherapy because the hypnotic state allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings, and memories they might have hidden from their conscious minds. In addition, hypnosis enables people to perceive some things differently, such as blocking an awareness of pain.

Hypnosis may be used in psychotherapy when indicated to treat:

ADDICTIONS: stopping the addictive cycle and releasing the core trauma

STRESS-RELATED ILLNESS: e.g. asthma, ulcers, colitis, allergies, headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, chronic pain

PAIN-CONTROL AND ANAESTHESIA: through self-hypnosis

CO-DEPENDENCY: treating fear of intimacy and addiction to unhealthy relationships, learning self-care and appropriate boundaries

INCEST AND SEXUAL ABUSE: empowerment through the release of suppressed trauma, healthy re-parenting

FEARS, PHOBIAS AND ANXIETY DISORDERS: post-traumatic stress, debriefing, agoraphobia, claustrophobia

EATING DISORDERS AND WEIGHT-MANAGEMENT: treating the behaviour, releasing the source of the addiction

Psychotherapy using hypnosis is both brief and deeply healing. The treatment addresses body, mind and spirit. Most people are unaware of the vast amount of information stored in the sub-conscious mind. Once this material brought to awareness, change comes quickly and dramatically! Hypnosis is the way to get down to the “source” of problems. It is also the way for people to re-connect with the dissociated emotions and the disowned parts of themselves. So much treatment focuses on healing the inner child… Integrative Health is the most powerful way to really reach and heal the lonely, fearful or abandoned inner child.
